On Tuesday, August 29, GMA reported on its GMA News Facebook page and on the news show 24 Oras that veteran television journalist Mike Enriquez had passed away the previous day. He had 71 years.
In a statement, Enriquez’s home station, GMA Network, said, “It is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel ‘Mike’ C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.” Enriquez passed away on August 29, 2023.
“His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all,” the GMA added.
An unplanned meeting in 1969 marked the beginning of Enriquez’s career in radio, which has spanned more than half a century.
During an interview in 2022 with another journalist, Pia Arcangel, Enriquez stated that his supposed visit to an old high school friend who worked at the Manila Broadcasting Company turned out to be an application for a job there because his friend referred him to the staff manager as a potential employee.
